Yep. Chevy just made a ‘67 Nova with a turbo 4. WHAT IS THE “MUSCLE” CAR WORLD COMING TO? Nice wheels, though.

OH BABY

That’s awesome as fuck though :)

They did come with a tiny Inline-4 that put out 90hp, so it’s really an upgrade from what was offered back then.

Sorry man. I’m very much in love with the current crop of Turbo Fours. That build is awesome!
Ford and Mopar had the right idea in the 80s.

You know what they need to do?
Make a V8 version of the Ecotec. 520HP @5300 rpm out of 4.0l V8.
Unfortunately, it would be a 600+ lb 4.0l V8... heavier than the original big block.

272 is not enough horsepowers for that car though :/
![]() 06/06/2015 at 15:20 |

What did it come with from the factory? Cause I’m pretty sure the 2.3L turbo 4 in the boostang makes more than a 1965 with a 289 V8

A GM V8 WITHOUT PUSHRODS???666!!!
![]() 06/06/2015 at 15:20 |

More than the basic Nova had at the time though.

True, but this build is very pro-touring, not stock. It needs more ponies.
![]() 06/06/2015 at 15:21 |

I would agree if this car was otherwise stock

To be honest though, the only advantage that a 4.0l Ecotec V8 would have over the LS2/LT1 is possibly fuel economy. It wouldn’t put out more power or weigh less.

This is awesome. We need more unusual engine swaps, I'm tired of V8 everything.

The most basic Nova had 153ci L4.. 90hp. Then there was the 194ci L6 and the 230ci L6.. the latter one had 195hp or so... sure, it could have some sort of V8 with about 300+ HP.. I still think a 2.0 turbocharged L4 is awesome in that car :)
![]() 06/06/2015 at 15:26 |

Don’t get me wrong, I’d rather have a V8, but that L4 could probably deliver twice the power that the most powerful V8 did at the time it was sold ;)

Going to echo For Sweden here. With modern rubber and suspension this car is going to feel sluggish and underpowered, these are not very lightweight cars. If you’re going to be as slow as most FWD luxury sedans on the road now, you at least need the fun and experience of real V8 noises and theater.

This is amazing if only for all the butthurt. Love it.
FWIW the 2nd gen Nova’s top motor option was a 327 putting out 275
gross
horsepower.
![]() 06/06/2015 at 15:29 |

Yes, but a pro touring build with more contemporary suspension needs more powwwwwah
![]() 06/06/2015 at 15:29 |

More than the basic most powerful Nova had at the time though.
![]() 06/06/2015 at 15:30 |

Nah..not more powaaah.. more burbleburbleburbleVROOOM (V8 sound) :P
![]() 06/06/2015 at 15:31 |

Hmm.. maybe.. I thought the most powerful V8 delivered 350hp or so, but I could be wrong :)
![]() 06/06/2015 at 15:38 |

the later big blocks made about that much gross horsepower. there was so much number fudging then it’s hard to tell. If I had to guess, the factory 327 was around 240hp and the big blocks were 280-300. OTOH, there were also (essentially) factory race motors that were criminally underrated.
Good times.

So Chevy did the opposite of what the European GM branch did I guess.. I’ve owned a few mid seventies to late seventies Opel Kadetts, 1,2 liter engines, said to have 50hp.. Yet they did 80mph :P (Yes, it took about half an hour to REACH that speed.. but still :P
![]() 06/06/2015 at 15:46 |

I like it!
![]() 06/06/2015 at 16:28 |

Yes, that’s the factory (under) rating. Also, WTF is FWIW?
![]() 06/06/2015 at 16:51 |

for what it’s worth.
![]() 06/06/2015 at 16:53 |

Ah. TIL WTF FWIW means. Sometimes internet acronyms get the best of me.

eh, you got me on TIL

Pontiac had a 3.2 I4 in the Tempest in the early 60’s and they sound positively insane when built.
